Essential oils have also been used for thousands of years for cosmetic purposes, as well as for their spiritually and emotionally uplifting properties. Primarily extracted through careful steam distillation but also through cold pressing, the purest essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they were extracted. Any time you hold a bottle of our powerful essential oils, you are holding nature’s pure essence.
Before You Start Using Essential Oils
Always skin-test an essential oil before using it. Each person’s body is different, so apply oils to a small area first.
Apply one oil or blend at a time. When layering oils that are new to you, allow enough time (15-30 minutes) for the body to respond before applying a second oil.
Exercise caution when applying essential oils to skin that has been exposed to cosmetics, personal care products, soaps, or cleansers containing synthetic chemicals. Some of them, especially petroleum-based chemicals, can penetrate and remain in the skin and fatty tissues for days or even weeks. Essential oils may react with such chemicals and cause skin irritation, nausea, headaches, or other uncomfortable effects.
Essential oils can react with toxins built up in the body from chemicals in food, water, or work environments. If you experience a reaction to essential oils, it may be wise to temporarily discontinue their use and start an internal cleansing program before resuming regular use of essential oils.
Ways to Use Essential Oils
Use essential oils aromatically to uplift the spirit.
- Rub 2-3 drops of essential oil between your palms and inhale.
- Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot water. Cover your head and bowl with a towel.
- Breathe deeply and slowly.
- Use your favorite essential oils in our many diffusers.
When taking essential oils internally, try these tips:
- Place several drops of oil into a vegetable capsule and swallow with water.
- Add 1-2 drops of essential oil to a glass of water, juice, yogurt, your favorite sweetener of choice, or plant-based milk and swallow.
- Add 1-2 drops of oil (to taste) to meals when cooking.
Note: Always consult individual product labels for usage directions.
Many essential oils are safe and beneficial to use directly on the skin.
- Place 2-3 drops of essential oil directly on the desired area and massage in.
- Repeat as desired. Always follow the label’s dilution instructions.
*Caution: Essential oils are very potent and may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, apply a carrier or any pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Citrus-based oils and blends may cause temporary photosensitivity.
The longer essential oils stay in contact with the skin, the more likely they are to be absorbed.
